Mechthild Barth – Artistic Director

Before Mechthild started pursuing a career in films, she studied Art, German philology and Spanish philology to become a teacher. After her state exams she moved to Santiago de Compostela, where she was part of Ana Vallés´ theatre company for four years. At the same time she started studying Film Directing at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Germany. In 2002-03 she had a scholarship for the International Filmschool in Cuba.

Since completing her studies in Cologne with her first full-length feature 5 ROOMS, she has been working freelance as author, editor and teacher. In 2006 Mechthild received a Sponsorship Prize from the state of Northrhine-Westphalia for Directing and the Gerd-Ruge-Scholarship.

Her film DANCING LIKE IN SPRING (co-director Svenja Weber) won the Second Level Award at the 1st Xi´an China International Civil Imaging Competition.

As editor she has been working for Gert Monheim, for whom she edited the documentary GOD'S WARRIOR AND HIS WIFE. The film was awarded the German Television Prize in 2007. NO ENTRY NO EXIT (2011, directed by M. Klein and J. Kreutzer) was nominated for the Grimme Prize.

In 2009 Mechthild was honorably mentioned by the Editing Forum NRW for her montage of Niko von Glasow´s NOBODY´S PERFECT. The film itself won the German Film Prize Lola. Lately she has been working on Niko´s latest pictures EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT and MY WAY TO OLYMPIA (Berlinale 2013).
